PROJECT BACKGROUND

Keystone Drive now experiences approximately 10 times its original volume of traffic, peaking in the summer months when the fish are in and then dropping off to lower levels in the fall, winter and spring. The high traffic volume results in washboards and potholes on the road surface, which in turn generate noise and dust and damage to vehicles. Emergency vehicle response time is affected by the extremely slow speeds required. Drainage is poor in many areas, resulting in flooding on nearby properties and polluted runoff, which drains into the Kenai River.

The Keystone Drive Improvement Project plans to upgrade the road surface to hard paving, to improve drainage, and to provide paved road shoulders to accommodate pedestrian traffic, ensuring a better road for residents and visitors alike.

This web site is designed to help you find project information of interest, notify you of public involvement opportunities, and to gather your comments so that the road that results from the project best suits your needs.
